Farout Fishing Safaris - trips for shark and tiger fish to Africa

The History of Far Out Fishing

Established in 1997, Farout Fishing Safaris' reputation has steadily grown throughout Southern Africa and the UK to become one of the best fishing tour operators in the region.

Specialising in Fishing Safari Holidays to Africa, we principally target Africa's strongest fighting fresh and salt water species - the Rivers Zambezi and Okavango for Tiger fish and the Atlantic and Indian Oceans for sharks.

Besides offering fishing, we also offer adventure and game safaris which can compliment your fishing holiday.

Farout Fishing comprises a small team of fishing and safari guides, and has ties with a number of fishing and safari lodges allowing us to offer an unrivalled variety of trips for great value, that aims to provide a whole new experience for anglers who fancy something exotic. Created by an English ex pat, living in Southern Africa, and desperate to continue a long and illustrious angling career which started with catching sticklebacks in Kent streams, and led on to a personal best tally which would rival most. Having moved to Botswana, fishing opportunities were not bountiful so, as a project for the future and to maintain sanity, weekends became devoted to finding new spots, new species, and new techniques, as well as introducing some of the techniques honed over years of fishing in the UK. After much painstaking research, and not a few too-close-for-comfort encounters with local inhabitants such as crocodiles and hippos, The Botswana Fishing Guide was published (still available for sale). Not content with completing a fishing guide for a land-locked country, covered in good part by the Kalahari Desert, Adam then realised that there was more to Southern African fishing than that available from his home in Botswana. As a result, he discovered the delights of the Zambezi and Okavango Rivers, Lake Kariba, and the Atlantic Ocean. The seeds for Far Out Fishing were sown as more of his old friends from the UK sat on the edge of their seats drooling over his fishing stories from such exotic locations, and tales of monster fish and amazing adventures

Types of Fishing Available

We are one of the few fishing organisations in the area to concentrate on catch and release fishing techniques in conjunction with eco-tourism principals.

One of the great advantages of being a small company is that our service is completely personal. All trips are truly catered for the individual. Nothing is ever booked without first talking it through with our team. They will endeavour to ascertain what you wish to gain from the trip, what style of accommodation you would prefer (we can provide anything from tented camps to five star fishing lodges), and what your family requirements may be. We can even help cater for a family Safari while you're out fishing, or otherwise recommend locations where we can take you to combine the two.

Currently, our two most popular types of trip are targeting the Bronze Whaler Sharks from beach or boat in the amazing scenery of the seemingly endless dunes of the Skeleton Coast of Namibia, and river trips down the mighty Zambezi or Okavango Rivers searching for a battle with the ferocious and prehistoric looking Tiger Fish. The rivers also provide fantastic sport in the form of the many and varied species of Bream, typically tempted with pinpoint casting with spinners on light tackle.

Meet the Farout Fishing Team:

African Manager - Adam Clark

Well, what can you say about Adam? Spending time with an Angler as enthusiastic as Adam is always an experience. With knowledge and expertise only matched by his boundless energy, Adam is a man whose attitude to angling is as detailed and precise in it's preparation as it is infectiously manic in it's execution. Adam is a man who takes massive pleasure from introducing people to the African fishing experience; one of the rare breed who will genuinely take more joy from watching you land your first tiger, or giving helpful snippets of tackle and rig advice, than he would landing a monster of his own. You will be left in no doubt that this trip is all about you, and if you want to take an hour to watch the hippos by the river or simply enjoy the African views, that's precisely what will happen.

UK Representative - Neil North

Neil is our UK manager and based in South East England. The brains(?) and computer behind the business, as well as the UK face of the company and your first contact. Neil has been a regular visitor to Southern Africa for the past 10 years, and is a passionate angler, getting out on trips with Adam and Johnny both in Africa and the UK whenever possible. He is likely to be one of the first faces you see from Farout Fishing, and in all likliehood will be your first point of contact from your initial enquiry.

Tigerfish Guide and UK Representative - Johnny Whitfield

Johnny is one of our guides who has been lucky enough to grow up in Africa with a fishing rod in his hands and has fished most of the major waters on that continent. His passion for angling has led him far afield and on his travels he has even ‘discovered’ some previously un-fished waters that with a bit of arm twisting he might be convinced to take you to. He is currently based in London attending all of the major fishing shows and keeping in touch with all of our clients in the UK to make sure that when they’re itching to head off to Africa again that he has everything ready for them. Johnny has also spent a lot of time guiding safaris around Southern Africa and is our expert on all the animals, birds and wildlife that you’re likely to see on safari with us in Africa.

Atlantic Ocean Shark Guide (Namibia) - Simon McGowan

Simon was so impressed with Namibia and its Sharks that he moved his wife and children from the UK to Namibia in 2004. Simon is one the best beach fisherman you will ever come across. His attention to detail is second to none, and he has been fishing since he was 3 years old in the UK. Simon reads the Ocean like no other and so he should he is ex British Navy! Simon has recently joined faroutfishing and feels its the right place for him especially as he enjoys his freshwater fishing as well, with Tiger Fish a big favourite.

Atlantic Ocean Shark Guide (Namibia) - Godfried Richter

Godfried is our Namibian face to the business and has caught over 100 Bronze Whaler Sharks since joining the team in 2005. Godfried tells us he enjoys watching faroutfishing clients catching and getting beaten by Bronzies! Local knowledge is where he is untouchable often challenging his colleague Simon with the right location on the beach and water clarity.

Indian Ocean Shark Guide (South Africa) - Owen Richter

Owen was born on the beach in South Africa, some call him Mr Sharky! Owen is our Indian Ocean Shark Guide, he knows the Indian Ocean and Ragged Tooth Sharks better than anyone. He eats, drinks and sleeps Sharks and insists on using the best equipment - only Shimano Reels and Assassin Rods. His attention to detail on the rigs he ties is truly incredible. Owen has appeared on National television in South Africa with the ESA Extreme Sport Angling Team programme and hopes to get himself and the ESA team up to fish for Tigerfish soon as he loves Fish with Big Teeth! Owen has recently joined faroutfishing and was on hand to help Adam land a 400 pound 'Raggie'!
